What is Salary Sacrifice?

To benefit from the scheme, working parents simply exchange a part of their salary for the same amount of childcare vouchers and use them to pay the childcare provider of their choice. This is known as a Salary Sacrifice Scheme.

To join the scheme, your employer will need to register with one of the many companies who run a scheme or they can set up their own facility through the payroll department.

Working Parents / Why Join the Scheme?

Put simply, childcare vouchers can help significantly towards working parents' childcare costs. The amount of money you can save by joining the scheme depends on how much you earn and the value vouchers. Each parent can request up to £243 through salary sacrifice a month (or £55 a week) in childcare vouchers.

Both working parents can join a childcare vouchers scheme to maximise the family savings. This saving could make a big difference to your childcare costs.

They're not just for toddlers either. You can use childcare vouchers to pay for registered childcare for children up to the age of 16 - so perfect if you use child minders, out of school clubs, holiday schemes and activity holiday camps. Salary Sacrifice forms part of the Governments Initiative to help families with their childcare costs.

Savings of between £1924 pounds and £2392 per annum on tax and National Insurance are available.

You may wish to take a look at the following page on the HM Revenues & Customs Website for further information on childcare - http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/childcare/
